Alton Brown is like the culinary Bill Nye of the food industry. He truly is god to an inspiring chef like me.
Rachael Ray is really cute, but her voice does tend to get annoying at times. Hehe. But she is a good cook.

| I like Alton Brown but his show are getting less and less about cooking and more and more about the comedy that he does. Yes, Alton is the commentator on the American Iron Chef Show. I won't get started about my feelings of the folks on the Food Network, since they all lie! Mis-lead their viewers.. did you know they don't even write their own recipe/cook books, that's true, they have other people write them and their "people" buy the recipes, compile the book and then put the food network personality on the book and they sell it as "their" book, oh, and they don't come up with their own recipes for their shows either, there's a network of people out there who, when the producers want a topic for the show, they send out a requests and the people out there submit their recipes and ideas, the producers then pick the ones out they want the personality to make and viola.. now you know.

I'm in the business, I have friends that make a lot of money writing recipes, it's a network of people who get a notice that someone is looking for something and they all submit in the information. The Food Network is owned by Kraft and they have a very strict set of rules. That's why it takes mis Yum-o about 12 or 15 hours to film 1 How to cook in 30 minute show! They have to change cutting boards, knives utensils and all kinds of stuff. That's why one of the reason everything is pre-wrapped and set in specific areas of the kitchen. Like if she's using 4 chicken breast, they'll package a bunch of vacuum sealed bags with identical (as they can) four chicken breasts so those first one's she's putting on isn't the one's she's pulling out at the end.
I'm sure that Not ALL those books (at least not their first ones) and not ALL the chef's do this about having other people write for them, but it's a real common practice.

| watch all the tricks... here's the show, take everything out of the bottom right hand corner of the fridge, next take everything out of the bottom left side of the cabinet, note, those places are now empty... prepare food, toss trash in trash bowl, make mess... go to commerical break.. come back from break, prep area now clean, new knife (note color of handle) trash bowl empty, go to fridge WOW the bottom right side of fride is full again, with exactly what she needs! Damn, wish my fridge worked that way and What? once again everying is generically wrapped in the exact proporton of what she needs, and DAMN so is her cabinents No wonder no one else can do what she does in 30 minutes or less LOL.. Yum-o

Of course things have to be prepared in advance in order to have a seamless cooking show. You can't expect a recipe with perishable ingredients to sit out under stage lights for hours and still look appetizing by the end of the show, so I don't see that as being misleading.
I'd like to think the hosts at least know their cooking, however. It's my understanding that Alton Brown, at least, comes from a food science background, so I would expect him to really know his stuff. Some of the other Food Network show hosts do seem to be just pretty faces for the screen without much actual talent. Case in point, that Semi-Homemade show. (Ok, I've seen it exactly once, so maybe I'm not really qualified to judge.)
