I pretty much spend my whole day in front of my computer, but I often wonder if I actually work for 8 hours a day.  Here's what's happening.  There are instances that I need to go run errands like going to a shop to buy soap, dish soap, bottled water, etc.  Of course, I eat meals.  I don't have a maid or servant, so I need to spend a bit of my time cleaning up my flat (apartment) as well.  Small things, but they really add up.  How's your situation?  Do you or can you actually work for 8 hours a day?

Luckily I don't have to commute, so I don't waste my time for that, but still ... there are quite a few things I have to do no matter what. Taking an hour to get to work is not great, but quite a few people take much longer. I don't think I'd enjoy that ...

2hrs drive to work, 8hrs manual labour, 2hr drive back home.

I used to regularly work 72hr weeks though.

Electrical/mechanical engineering. Unfortunately in manufacturing at the moment, hopefully back into field service sometime soon.

Back on the open road! :-ww

Hopefully you'll be able to get back into that soon especially if you enjoy that kind of work.

I don't envy you there... I would hate to have to commute.

For me, it's 5 mins + 8 hours work + 5 mins + 2 hours off + a few more hours, if I feel like it.  That would be a typical day.

I have a question for you.  Let's say that you need to go meet your accountant and your banker.  Let's say that you spend 30 minutes to get to your accountant's office, spend 30 minutes there, spend another 30 minutes to go meet your banker, spend 30 minutes there and spend 30 minute to come back to your office.  Do you consider that this is 2.5 hours of work or not?   I have to spend a fair amount of time at my accountant's office and at my bank lately, and I also have to spend a certain amount of time to get to these places.  I don't feel like I'm actually working.  I feel like I'm working when I sit in front of my computer ...

I work from home, and while I probably don't work 8 hours straight, I think the total time worked is probably more than that.

I train dogs for a living and right now I've got three of them here. It's a full time job to keep them exercised, feed, crates clean, take them on field trips, and provide the training their parents pay for.

In between that I work on my websites. But the majority of my time is spent taking care of the puppers. Unfortuntly my own dogs often feel left out because I spend more time with other people's pets then with them.

I suppose it kind of is, although it's not intense work.  It's certainly not leisure time.  In my case, though, I only meet my accountant once a year, and he is only 5 minutes away... :)

I had to stop at yet another government office this morning; this is very important.  I have to go there tomorrow and the day after.  See, the thing is that this is definitely a part of my work and I have to get it done; it's very very important.  However, it feels kind of funny to me.  I know that I will spend 5 hours or so to just go there and come back this week.  I also know that I will spend a couple of hours preparing documents and what not.  So, all in all, I will probably spend 8 hours or so just for this.  However, ... I'm not really producing anything, you know?  More specifically, I'm not monetizing anything.  That feels a bit funny to me ...

If you consider about six hours of school and one to four hours of theater work (stage managing) "work," then yes, I work for 8 hours a day, excluding weekends.

30 minutes going to work + 8 hrs. of labor + 1 hr. traffic going home =9 and a half hours

this is my routine... (Lucky if it's not traffic going home, especially on weekend).

That sounds like me at the moment. Spending the whole day in front of the computer. Yeah, i can work 8 hours and longer than that. I'm like a happy bunny when i'm busy. I can go all night, and I really get into it. If there was no electricity i'd be mostly like this, (busy) and relaxing inbetween.

For a two week period, when I work at the Wimbledon Championships it's 7 days a week, 10-12 hours each day. (Catering) No sitting down, only lunch and a few breaks inbetween. I worked the same when I went to Ireland to work as a Chef. I never got to see daylight cause I was up at quarter to 5, each morning and always inside a stuffy hot kitchen.
