Thanks James, thanks altyfc. Now that I have at least reader, here we go :)

Just a quick plug before I go any further. My main blog is called Temi's Internet Blogs

The blogs I am going to write will be quite different, exploratory actually, with the hope that it may bring about a sort of Catharsis to my "dislike" of TV. If I had the opportunity to choose a title for this blog, I would have called it:

TV blogs of a non-TV watcher

I think I found this forum through Joy of Chat Daily, she introduced me to James, with the view to helping each other develop our forums, the forum I was trying to develop is called Haabaa Forums.

My first thoughts were blimey I can't possibly post in a TV forum, I won't know what to post, I have not had a TV for about fifteen years and had not watched any TV for one or two year.
Then I challenged myself that, yes I can, there are other section to the forum, you may not know what "grease is the word" means but you have life experience and stuff from your TV watcher day you can draw on.

Then I started reflecting on how I come to stop watching TV. The next instalment of this blog is called:

Accidental non-TV watcher or faulty cognition?

I am very much looking forward to reading that entry. TV has become such a big part of the lives of humans, and not just for entertainment value, but for news, communication, education, etc. So I really look forward to reading your blog ongoing.
JA

Accidental non-TV watcher or faulty cognition?

In this instalment of TV blogs of a non-TV watcher, I will try to explore two of the main reason why I became a non-TV watcher. The first reason I would explore is the hypothesis that it was not a planned action it was accidental. Like many habits we get into accidentally, sometime we just cannot be bothered to get out of it.

The second reason I would explore is that, after I became a non-TV watcher by accident, series of what Psychologist sometime describe as faulty cognition let to me disliking TV, and just adopting a TV free lifestyle.

I accidentally became a non-TV watcher because my girlfriend at the loves her TV very much, then her TV broke down. She had no money to buy another TV set, I had not money to lend her or buy her a new set either, she started having a “TV withdrawal symptoms”.
Since I am hardly at my own flat anyway, I though why not give her my TV? This I did and she was quite pleased.

Eventually we went our separate ways, I left the TV with her but enjoy the peace and tranquillity my TV free flat offered that I decided not to buy another TV for a while.

During my TV free period, I met another woman (she is now my wife). She come from an "alternative" kind of family, the have never owned a TV in their family because her parents made a decision not to have a TV.
Household with no TV is quite common within the Waldor/Steiner community even today.

In the next installment, I will explore how coincidence and faulty congition let to where I am today.

What an incredible entry temi.
If you don't mind I have a question or two.

You said that your then girlfriend has "TV withdrawal symptoms". this fascinates me. what were these symptoms?

Next, you said that you met another woman who became your wife and she had never owned a TV. What an incredible coincidence at the time. When the fact that you did not have a TV at that moment in your life came up, did you already know that she did not have TV in her life? How did it all come up as an issue with the 2 of you. Obviously it was a positive thing, but I would love to know more.

James,
"TV withdrawal symptoms" is a symptoms I invented just as a joke, but she moans about missing her favourite programs on TV and sometime she goes to the neighbours house to watch some programmes, she constantly complains about how to quickly get a replacement TV. (Those are what I called TV withdrawal symptoms).

You are right about the coincidence of my wife coming from a sort of anti-TV background (I have nothing against TV personally, when I have the opportunity for example when I am in a hotel or staying with friends who have TV I do watch TV but I doubt if I will go out of my way to buy a TV for my personal use in my house. But my wife still will not watch TV given same opportunity).
Also, TV is not an issue between my wife and I, she does not mind if I buy a TV for my own use at home, its just her personally who does not like the "idiot box" , like I said earlier, she was brought up the Waldorf way. You can read this paragraph "Why do Waldorf Schools discourage TV watching?" on one of the Waldorf communities FAQ to see why they do not believe in watching TV: http://www.waldorfanswers.org/WaldorfFAQ.htm#11

TV is not an issue between us at all, when my wife and I started living together, by this time I have not had a TV for some time and I just thought well, perhaps I can live a TV free existence as well. One of the questions TV watchers ask when they find out that I do not have a TV is what I do with my evenings..... I will detail that in future blogs.
