Currently on Thursday nights at 9pm (until they move it again, lol), this is one of our favorite shows and a "can't miss" each week (or a definite DVR!)

The big cast of medical staff provides the perfect mix of comedy, drama, and interesting medical cases. You are not bombarded with medical talk, but there is enough real medicine to make it feel almost real (even if the cases seem completely incredible each week).

Meredith Grey is the main character BUT any of the many players take the lead each week.

Derek Shepherd is "McDreamy" to Meredith.  Top neurosurgeon

George O'Malley - nerdy roommate, who recently has come into his own on the show. they are giving him much more confidence and romantic interests

Christina Yang - beyond driven and sometimes (almost always) cold. Very very smart and has a now public relationship with Preston Burke.

Preston Burke - Heart surgeon who now has a problem with his hand after getting shot. Aloof is a big understatement. Very interesting and complicated person.

Alex Karv - brash, young, to the point. One of my favorite characters because he is aggressive and a "guy". But he is also showing some compassion and might end up a baby doc!

Izzy Stevens - ex model turned doctor. big story line last season with heart patient Dizzy, who she fell in love with and then in the most emotional moments of the show, had to watch him die (after she basically killed him). Amazingly she was not terminated and is now back at the hospital.

Miranda Bailey - THE GLUE of the show. She is the best character and deserves all of the awards and recognition she received. NO character is so multi dimensional and hard to not watch. She is amazing.

We love this show.

Great great show tonight. They really came back STRONG for the first show of the new 1/2 season.

George's father seems to be doing better after the surgery and the kiss Callie and he shared when dancing was funny...BUT this much happiness typically leads to some real UNhappiness in the past. I am worried that George's father will take a turn for the worst next week.
Callie's staring down everyone was pretty funny also.

Preston and Yang are still having their stare down and neither one will give in yet. The end with them in the same room staring at each other was consistant with the rest of the show. It seems that Preston is recovering and his hand is getting better.

Shocker of the show was the ALMOST kiss of Addison and Alex. That was a surprise twist, but IMO an interesting and good one. If they were to actually hook up it would bother BOTH Derek and Mark, and that would = a bunch of controversy, especially from Mark.

The snoring of Meredeth might end up being a bigger issue down the road. i don't think they would have brought it up so many times if they don't plan to make a bigger issue of it in future episodes. Would be crazy if they CANT be together because of it.

Finally - IZZY, who obviously is going to pay for the surgery for the girl with the back problems, and again get to involved with a medical case. This story line I do not like because what is she going to do from her on out - pay for one surgery a week? It seems a little silly.

Over all a VERY strong episode.

I think tonights show will be a very sad one.  It doesnt look good for George's dad, unfortunately.  Burke and Yang need to get over themselves.  He tried to blame her when it was the BOTH of them that covered up his hand.  Yang ran herself ragged trying to help him.  Yes, she loves the fact that he is BURKE but, come on, lets face it... so does he.

Greys Anatomy - January 18th  Six Days Part 2

The show opened with Meredith's snoring. Our dear Dr. McDreamy can't sleep with such noise, and they have cute bickering moments throughout the episode. George notices that Izzie's $8.7 million dollar check has been removed from the fridge and is...ecstatic, to say the least.  We have the first awkward meeting between Addison and Alex. They do a little dance and try to avoid each other as best they can. And remember the scoliosis patient from last week, the one that wanted the super expensive surgery so she could stand up straight? Well, the lucky girl received a donation from an anonymous person! Dr. Bailey calls Izzie out, and refuses to let her scrub in on the surgery, saying she gets too emotionally involved with her patients.

Addison tells Callie that she, "...aborted Mark's baby."  Addison says she wanted a baby, and wanted a family, but with Derek, not with the egotistical plastic surgeon. Meanwhile, Christina keeps trying to get information on Burke's hand but is still refusing to actually talk to him. They're in a relationship, they're just not speaking to each other...riiiiight...

While the interns are watching the spinal surgery, Dr. Karev gets very nervous when asked about a patient, thinking they know about the almost kiss between him and Addison. Meredith receives a 911 page for George's dad. Callie, who is in on the spinal surgery, looks up and sees the interns rushing out, and asks to leave so she can check on George and his family.

Dr. Bailey informs the O'Malley clan that the Mister is having trouble breathing. To fix this, they need to insert a new tube, but there may be too much swelling to do this easily, or even at all. As the family ponders this, there's a brief moment with a shot of George and Callie holding hands - looks like those two kids might make it after all! Cut to Dr. Bailey inserting the tube - she does so successfully. (Phew!)

We then receive the twist - George's dad is suffering from renal (organ) failure. George goes to his mentor, Burke, to see what can be done. Burke tells him he has no knowledge of patients coming back from renal failure. George soon learns that the cancer had spread, and that Dr. Webber and Dr. Bailey went ahead with the operation, against hospital policy, but because his father asked them to. George FLIPS out, and tells Webber and Bailey that his father didnt know any better but that THEY did.

Addison discusses her recent condition with Dr. Sloane, who wants to know why she had the abortion. She tells him, in no uncertain terms, that she wanted a baby with Derek, and that Mark would have made a lousy father - ouch, two birds with one stone.

Bailey tells the O'Malleys that their father and husband will not make it. His brothers look to George to tell them what to do, and they decide to pull the plug. When George leaves the room, he knows his friends are there, but it is Christina who follows him. She welcomes him to the "Dead Dads Club" - she's been a member since age 9. (Its actually very touching)

Earlier in the episode, Meredith learns she has more of her father in her than she may like to admit. Izzy and Christina confess she has stammering and messiness issues, a la Thatcher. Meredith then speaks to him briefly and learns that her snoring comes from him, as well. A small but emphatic moment.

The wrap-up? Izzy tells Dr. Bailey that she is both a surgeon and someone who gets emotionally involved - and she wouldn't have it any other way. Derek sleeps at Meredith's with wax ear plugs - a tip from her father. Burke tells Derek that he hasn't had any tremors all week - in front of Christina, and a confession that lets us know they'll be okay. Addison and Dr. Karev kiss at Joe's bar.

Maybe not the most uplifting episode of the season, but an important one nonetheless. Next week we hear the three most shocking secrets of the season in the last five minutes!

Seriously?

Seriously, I'll know I will be watching!!!

If you missed this episode, you can watch it Friday, January 19 at 8pm EST on ABC.

Angel - what an awesome recap. Thank you! I just watched my DVR'd version and it was a great show. One of the more powerful I can remember, but without any dramatic train crash, car pile up, or explosion. That is what made it so much more powerful. Basically every character in the show had deep emotional moments.

I especially liked the relavation about Addison's aborted baby. I knew it had to be something big like that, or they probably would have gotten together by now and at least seriously tried to make a go at it again.

I was worried that Meredith's snoring would actually derail the relationship with Shepherd, but they nicely brought all that together with the wax ear plugs, which was info Meredith gained from her father towards the end of the show (because he snored very loudly also and she got that from him). I think they call that...irony!

The little girl who got the surgery because Izzy paid for it (after the insurance would not pay) was an interesting story line, but I could not believe that what Shepherd did to allow her to stand upright had not been tried before. sometimes this show makes the old Chicago Hope look tame for miracle surgeries. Anyone who use to watch Chicago Hope will know what I am talking about, lol

The growing relationship with Karev and Addison should add a nice twist for the show. It would be nice to see him actually have a good relationship for once that lasts. But I am guessing that they will have the 2 of them butt heads on an upcoming baby case because of Karev's bluntness at time.

George's dad being let go was very emotional, but the best part (if there was a best part to a good guy dieing) was the awkward, yet very "Christina", comfort George received from Christina. Her telling him about the Dead Dad's Club was perfectly delivered like only Christina could do. They just stood there at the train station and looked at each other. It would have been out of character for them to hug and the producers of the show got it right with them just looking at each other while Christina did her best to comfort George like only she could.

Hopefully Burke will be back in the halls and doing surgery soon. His tremors seem to be gone, at least for the past week, which is a good thing and they really can not hold out on the silent treatment game he and Christina have been playing. This week was FINALLY a break through with Burke talking about his current symptoms in front of Christina...finally. Maybe next week they will actually talk to each other so we can move on with that.

The previews look strong for next week, with a little more humor (this was an emotionally strong show, but not as many laughs this week) and 3 of the biggest surprises of the season?! Who knows what that will be.

Good show this week.

In the first part of Six Days (January 11) when the surgery was brought up, Dr Callie Torres had researched a rather *new* surgery, one that was still in the experimental stages, which is why the mothers insurance company would not cover the expenses.  This is also part of what got Izzie to depositing the check.  It all had to tie in together, but thats why (via the storyline) it had not been tried before.  It was a new option to correct her back.  When they had tried previous surgeries, the metal rod that had been implanted had bent.

Jan 25, 2007 Show Recap

Starts with George having lots...and lots...and lots of sex with Callie.

Preston and Yang are still not talking and seeing who can go longer.

George and Izzy work on a girl with a massive tumor. The girl has a friend who she is very close with and basically her only immediate family. Her friend tells them not to call her friend's parents. More on this later....

Callie and Yang work on a runner who has a cold. They don't like each other and it is pretty funny. his knee is hurting at this point...more on this later...

Miranda goes and talks to the Chief about starting a free clinique at the hospital. The chief is off to a meeting and wonders why she wants to take on just a big undertaking.

As we go to the first commercial an Amish couple comes into the hospital looking for their daughter...who turns out to be the girl with the tumor mentioned above.

Back from break..

McSteamy tells Grey that he is quitting once he can find the chief and hand in his resignation. Grey gives him a hard time and hints that the chief might be leaving.

McDreamy is very moody early in the show, mainly because of the potential to be chief and the fact he heard that Preston was being considered and he did not know about it.

Back to our runner mentioned above. He complains to Yang about leg pains. she looks at his legs and they are massively swollen. She yells for Callie. Right before the next commerical they cut his legs open in a big long cut to try to relieve the pressure.

Now everyone wants to be chief. We find out that the chief has put in for his retirement, once a replacement is found, but he is angry, and disappointed at how the staff is acting like vultures trying to get his job.

Miranda starts talking to all of the doctors about participating in her free clinic, but they all turn her down, which is frustrating to her.

The girl with the massive tumor is in really bad shape and surgery reveals that she is stage 4 and in big trouble. she actually was the one who called her Amish parents and she reveals to Izzy that if she is going to die, she wants to die at home.

The chief tells Miranda that someday he sees her as chief of surgery. Miranda is floored by this comment.

The 4 main doctors are all sitting together when Miranda comes up to them and gives them letters of commitment for her free clinic and she gives them an amazing speech about why she believes in the project. All of them sign the papers after her speech (it was a good one). Derek has a funny line and says " the nazi is back"

The girl's friend tells her dieing friend to go home to her Amish home, which would be shunning her. It is tear filled and sad, but the right thing to do. Pretty touching moment and the Amish mom talks to her friend. Izzy is outside the door and hears all of this.

The chief goes to see Adel, his wife, with flowers - only to find that she has moved on. It had been months since she gave him the ultimatum and she has moved on. That sucked for him.

Izzy and George talk in a private room. George is just starting to feel really bad about his father. Izzy gives George a big hug and tells him that life is short and it sucks a lot of the time and that if Callie makes him happy, he should be with her. They have a big hug and both cry.

Then Miranda and Izzy talk about the free clinic. And Izzy calls it the Denny Memorial clinic, because she has 8 million dollars. Miranda is floored.

Meredith and Derek talk at the end about their fight earlier in the day. He apologizes and teaches Meredith that he will always show up after they fight.

Show ends with Meredith narrating and finally Yang talks to Burke..finally. She says that she thinks what she did was right, no matter what he thinks. And she tells him that she is in their relationship for the long haul and to finish the race. She shows her commitment to their relationship. Burke asks her to marry him. Yang is shocked as he asks...

Then the show cuts to George and Callie, he talks to her about his father and what he misses, but he also professes his feelings for Callie and how much he cares about her. She proposes to her to marry him. She is shocked as he asks.....

AND...we don't get any answers this week...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Have to wait until next week!

WHAT DID EVERYONE ELSE THINK??

January 25th - Great Expectations

George has become a sex machine.

This is the first revelation of the night as Callie bolts from his bedroom, worn out by O'Malley's constant need for lovin'. She implores upon Izzie to take over. Not in bed, but as a friend, caring for the grieving George. As much as she loves George, Callie just can't satisfy his sudden, unwavering need for that booty.

Dismayed at being shunned by Addison since their kiss, Alex confronts her and says he's not interested. Whether he's serious about that or not, he wants in on her surgeries - and is not a fan of being avoided. Perplexed, she accepts Alex's request to be let back onto the vagina squad - future hookups notwithstanding.

Rumors are flying around Seattle Grace that Richard is stepping down as Chief, and the would-be successors are already jockeying for position. At first, Burke says he's not interested, not worthy. Later, after talking to Dr. Bailey, he decides he's not ready to just pass on the goal that was once as good as his. Addison also throws her hat in the ring.

McDreamy is "angered" when he learns Preston was originally the Chief's top choice - and even more enraged after Meredith left the retirement rumor slip to McSteamy. The dirty mistress plastic surgeon was about to quit, but the impending vacancy as head of surgery made him rethink it. Suffice it to say, McDreamy was pissed - at everyone involved, and the world. Fortunately, he makes amends with a sincere apology to Mer later on.

Despite all the speculation and in-fighting, Richard's retirement is left in doubt. First, he confides in Bailey (who as a resident does not have enough seniority to succeed him) that she would have been his choice and will be chief herself one day. He'd only been giving Bailey the runaround regarding her idea for a Seattle Grace free clinic so she'd get used to life without him.

Further clouding Richard's future is Adele (his wife), who shuts the door in his face when he arrives home to announce that he's finally hung up his scrubs. It looks as if she has another man in the house. Regardless, it's clear she's moved on, as she tells Richard unequivocally that when she said she didn't have any more time to wait, she was serious. And that was months ago. She then proceeds to slam the door in his face. (Nice eh?)

Even if she won't be chief yet, Miranda is empowered by the Chief's vote of confidence, and promptly gets Burke, McDreamy, Addison and McSteamy to sign off on her proposal. As she walks away, McDreamy states "The Nazi is back." Bailey still needs funding to make it happen, however, and fortunately, a certain intern steps up to the plate. The newly wealthy Izzie Stevens says they should call it the Denny Duquette clinic.

A 23-year-old, Jilly, is admitted with Stage 4 cervical cancer - but it turns out that her family situation that makes the situation even more serious. She ran away from home at age 16 with her best friend, Rachel. Because she was baptized and then left, Rachel is forever shunned by the Amish community they grew up in. For Jilly, who was never baptized, the door remains open for a return.

When her Amish parents arrive at Seattle Grace, Jilly knows she is trapped between worlds - and the news she receives about her tumor spreading tears her apart. Despite their fractured family ties, and as close as she is to Rachel, home will always be home to her. Jilly decides to return, so that if she dies, it will be in the place where she was born.

Once again taking her emotional cues from her patient, Izzie decides that she must let her best friend go, just as Rachel must with Jilly. She and George have the closest of bonds, but even Izzie can't soothe his grief. The person that can, apparently, is Callie - and not just sexually. She means everything to him, he professes, and after an outpouring of emotion, George drops to one knee and says,

"Marry me." (I almost DIED)

A runner who pushes himself too far and nearly loses his legs as a result teaches Cristina a lesson. Rather than always trying to win, or in Yang's case, being right, it's about finishing the race. Crossing that finish line. Giving your best for the long haul. She ends her standoff with Dr. Burke by expressing her dedication to making their relationship work, no matter what happens. Burke finally breaks his silence with these words:

"Marry me." (I think I DID die this time!!)

To see this episode, tune in Friday January 26th at 8pm (est) on ABC.

FYI - my opinion is that there will be 2 NO's to both of the wedding questions. They never allow George to be happy for long, so he will be crushed. He always has a really good moment, and then they bring him crashing down.
As far as Yang, I just don't see her doing it, especially with how she views her career first. Toss in that the actor that plays Preston might be fired anyway, and I just don't see it.
Also, I am pretty sure that the chief will take back his retirement plans now and none of the doctors will move up to the position.

I could post what I know... but not sure how much YOU wanna know... There are spoilers, and I dont wanan ruin it for anyone.  I only read about half of them, like I knew about only ONE of the proposals.

Did you see the scenes where it looks like Ellis will be getting better?  SO maybe Ellis and the chief will be back together?

Hmmm.... Possibilities.... soooooooooo many!

February 1 2007

George and Callie got married.

Thats right, I will say it again... George and Callie got MARRIED.

When George arrives at Seattle Grace with this news, eight days after his marriage proposal, Izzie and everyone else are shocked... and less than supportive.

Wait.... It gets better...Meredith's mother, Dr. Ellis Grey, is completely lucid. She suddenly recognizes Meredith and remembers everything - except for the five years that she's been in a home with Alzheimer's Disease.

Meredith gently breaks the news to her and she falls into a state of shock. Ellis ends up at Seattle Grace with heart eurthymia. When she wakes up, Meredith tells her still-lucid mother she's happy and that she's dating another doctor. Ellis FLIPS OUT... she LOSES her ever-loving mind. She (Ellis) didn't raise her (Mer) to be happy, but to be accomplished. Anyone can be happy and normal. She has the skills and the drive to save a life! How could Meredith?!?!?  Ellis cruelly laments, She (Mer) has become ordinary and unfocused! (it almost brought tears to my eyes... and all i could think of was BIT**)

The Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic is ready and on its first day, Izzie and Miranda eagerly await their first patient. A little girl walks in with her father, who asks for help in showing her how to use tampons. Since his wife died, he's been lost. He doesn't have a clue. While her father is in the other room, the girl blurts out that she had sex a few days before her period came and is worried she's pregnant. Miranda says she knows it's tough without a mother, but tells her she's too young to be having sex. When Izzie returns, Miranda tells her that one patient alone was worth the $8 million they spent on the clinic. (*begins playing soft music*)

A unconscious cancer patient, Marina, is admitted to the hospital by her boyfriend, who is astonished to find out that she's been receiving chemo for months. As George takes blood from Marina, her boyfriend confesses he doesn't even know her middle name. George tells him it's Rose.

As George hands off the blood sample to nurse Olivia, she observes that he doesn't look so good. She assumes he's regretting the quickie marriage, he thinks he's having an anxiety attack over his impulsive nuptials. He tells Callie he can barely breathe. She's livid that self-doubt is once again getting to his head. She smacks him and storms off.

George and Olivia both end up bed-ridden, shaky and nauseous. He now thinks it's because they both handled the blood sample, and that it must be toxic. He calls the O.R. to warn them, but it's too late. Richard, Alex and the other surgeons are all unconscious on the floor! ( which caused MY heart to almost stop... )

They find an herbal supplement in her purse that they think, combined with the chemo, led to the toxicity. The surgeons are removed from the room and put on oxygen. Derek and Burke prepare to wear special suits with oxygen masks and finish the abdominal surgery, but while they are getting ready, Marina starts to wake up!! She is fighting intubation, and there is nothing that can be done.  If a doctor runs in there to adjust the anethesia, they will become infected! Addison runs in to finish the job (YAY!!!), then collapses into Mark's arms.

Derek and Burke finish the surgery, but can't fit the swollen bowels back into the patient. Under Richard's supervision, they try to reduce the swelling, but both run out of oxygen and collapse. Richard, who had been worried about his legacy at Seattle Grace now that he's nearing retirement, shows us why he's the Chief as he calmly but forcefully sends in Meredith, Izzie and Christina in for 20 second shifts until the surgery is done.

While recuperating, Addison can't stop staring at Alex, who catches her at it. She flees ... and ends up in bed with Mark again, which she swore she would never do. Yet even while they're in the throes of passion, she can't help but jibe at him, saying that she's willingly not thinking about him at this very moment.

Callie confesses her middle name to George: Iphegenia. In the locker room, Izzie makes a snide remark about Callie not moving in with them, so George finally decides its time to man up. (I know... its ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME) He announces that she's the biggest part of his life now, and if they drive Callie away, they're driving him away too.

Meanwhile, Ellis demands a neurology consult, which leads to a meeting with Derek, who incurs Ellis' wrath when he mentions he's dating Meredith. Well actually, he didnt tell her he was dating Mer, but when asked why a non-specializing doctor would take the time to look into a special treatment for Alzheimers, Ellis figured it out.  The elder Dr. Grey accuses him of taking advantage of her, and insists she doesn't want the heart procedure she may need to save her life.

Christina, assigned to the case, tells Ellis bluntly she could die and she doesn't care. However, the decision is not up to her, but up to Meredith. Meredith flips out and tells her mom she hates being the one in charge, but she has no choice since Ellis alienated everyone else in her life.

As for Cristina's offer from Dr. Burke? She still hasn't given him a reply. She's taking it under advisement, she says, and asks Ellis for her advice. Can you be a surgeon and have a life too? Ellis tells her indignantly that it's none of her business... but she wishes she had tried harder to make it work when she had the chance.

Cristina finally tells Burke her answer. She won't wear a ring. She doesn't do rings. But she is saying yes as only she can. Quietly and cautiously, in typical Preston fashion, he nods and says okay. Then he bursts with joy and twirls her in the air excitedly. (It was a very cool scene... almost allowing me to forget that I dont like Isaiah Washington)

Richard goes to see Ellis while she's still with it and instead of telling her he and Adele are splitting up, which we learned earlier, he tells her what she wants to hear - about the wonderful life the two of them would have had together - so that she will rest easy.

Meredith comes back to say she wants the surgery for her mother because she's hoping that in a few years, there'll be a breakthrough - a cure for Alzheimer's Disease - and they can start over with each other.

Ellis' reply: "You remind me a lot of my daughter."

Richard then tells Meredith that Ellis slipped back about an hour ago.

GREAT recap this week!! Awesome
my thoughts...
1) I loved George manning up...finally. Took way to long. And I loved Callie's look when he did. I believed the look, so well acted!
2) Burke hugging Christina happily and wildly was awesome. (I agree with you that Washington is not my favorite person right now, but it was a great moment on the show)
3) The one thing that frustrated me was that the hospital only seemed to have 2 air suits to use and while the 2 main doctor were in there working on the toxic patient, another few suites could have been charging up. That bothered me, but I liked the doctors running in one after another to help. I HATED McSteamy Mark whimping out and not doing it. What a loser.
4) And finally Addison with Mark again is maddening. She should be with Alex already. The chemistry is there!

Overall a very strong show this week with so much going on in the one hour!
