Ostensibly the point of the show was to demonstrate that anyone could do their part to help charities and make a difference. I don't think Oprah considered how much easier her name made things, though; do you think these corporations give $100K gifts to just anyone?

I think Oprah knows exactly how much easier her name made things, and at the same time she is gaining more name recognition. But she's doing good things with it at least.

100% right - you or I could not call and get 100,000 on the spot. But calling from Oprah's big give, with TV cameras everywhere really helps open up people's pocketbooks, especially when there could be negative PR if you did not.

normal people CAN get things done like they did, but usually not on the same scale and with the same ease.
