The Simpsons premiered as a short created by Matt Groening on The Tracey Ullman show in April of 1987. After running with the Ullman show for 3 season FOX picked up a half hour rendition of the short and made it into an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning American animated sitcom
The Simpsons were an early hit for Fox, and have won several major awards. In its 1998 issue celebrating the greatest achievements in arts and entertainment of the 20th century, Time magazine named The Simpsons the century's best television series.[ On January 14, 2000 the Simpsons were awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is the longest-running American sitcom, as well as the longest-running American animated program.
It is now been 20 years since their television debut and this summer they will be making their big screen debut which I am looking incredible forward to. After 20 years, it’s about friggin time.
Rundown of Simpson Characters courtesy of Wikipedia:
Homer Simpson is a safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and a generally well-meaning buffoon. Marge Simpson is for the most part a stereotypical American housewife and mother. Bart Simpson is a ten-year-old troublemaker who thinks of himself as a rebel. Lisa Simpson is an extremely intelligent eight-year old middle child who is often involved in left-wing activism and loves playing the saxophone. Maggie Simpson is a baby who sucks on a pacifier, falls down a lot and does not speak. The family has a dog (Santa's Little Helper), a cat (Snowball II), as well as several other one-shot pets. Despite the fact that numerous yearly milestones (such as holidays or birthdays) clearly pass, the Simpsons do not physically age. The show has a vast array of quirky supporting characters, including co-workers, teachers, family friends, extended relatives, and local celebrities. Originally, many of these characters were planned as one-shot jokes, or to fill a function in the town; a number of them gained expanded roles, and some have subsequently been the subject of their own episodes. Matt Groening stated that the idea for the many different recurring characters of The Simpsons

I used to enjoy this when it first premiered but I can't stand it any more. It was a good show for quiet a few years but I think it is way past it's use by date, I will not watch it under any circumstances now.

Blimey that's a bit strong Tweety! I thought everyone loved The Simpsons?

I have not had access to SKY TV for a while and haven't seen an pisode for ages, I'm looking forward to the film being released this summer.

Incidentally it always makes me lauh how The Simpsons rapidly overtook Tracy Ullman's success. :))

There are quite a few fans that lost interest but I seem to be one of the only ones that started in 87 and watch to this day, LOL.

When the channel that has the rights to the show rams repeats of repeats down your neck 15 times a week (they have done this in non rating periods) you soon get sick of it.

Nah, that's what I like. Sky TV are practically The Simpsons Channel, you are almost guaranteed that there will be an episode of The Simpsons showing on one of their three stations at any given time. :))

Most shows that are in syndication get rammed down your throat, at least you know if you watch repeats of The Simpsons you have a chance of not seeing the same episode every other day, like Friends.

If Big Brother isn't showing the channel E4 is practically the Friends Channel. It's on almost everytime I switch on!

The Simpsons- classic show, with a huge following. Isn't it the longest running program in history?

I mean, I remember watching them on the Tracey Allman show, back in the day.

I love the simpsons :)
I haven't watched many early episodes though, although there are references to the first seasons in the later episodes. The drawing improved a lot :P

The Simpsons and Family Guy are my two favorite shows. I can't wait to see the move that's coming out for the Simpsons on the big screen.
