Well the new season officially started tonight and here are my thoughts.
1) there are WAY to many people out there who think they can actually sing, and have no business even singing in the shower. Or maybe that is the problem, they do sing in the shower and actually thing they are good. The bad ones...are really really bad.
2) this week was pretty weak in talent, at least what they showed on tonights show. Maybe some of the people who made it but we did not see will be actually great once they show the Hollywood shows in a few weeks.
3) the judges were actually pretty good tonight and more honest instead of being silly goofy kiss asses or fans like Paula and Randy have historically been. I was surprised at how quiet Paula was. I wonder if the producers have put the clamps on her this year to control her out of control behavior from last year. I guess we will see if her behavior changes in future weeks.

If you like the really BAD performances then next week should be all time classic. I have read multiple articles (including the recent Entertainment Weekly story) about how bad this year's Seattle auditions were and next week the world gets to see it on the show. Should be freak central. Can't wait!

yes, she was the winner 2 seasons ago. she is very talented, but her album sales in America have been just "OK". she has a new album that just was released that I have heard some of and it seems very good and has a lot of cross over potential. We will see!

Tuesday, January 17th show -
Tonights show, in Seattle was easily the worst singers and performers ever on the show. What is really sad is that this is ALL staged for TV. By the time these people actually get to the 3 main judges, they have been screened multiple times. So these terrible performers are being put through to Paula, Randy and Simon COMPLETELY for TV and to showcase how horrible they are. The show should never...EVER go back to Seattle.

A friend of mine tried out for the show and gave me some insight to what REALLY goes on. There are three auditions. Fantasia and Ruben are the second part, with Simon, Paula and Randy being the third. The people that get all the way thru to the Trio are there for amusement only.

Ultimately the 3 main judges have no say to the winner anyway since America votes and picks the winner, but I do love Simon. At least he is honest. Someone has to tell these people that they can not sing!

Seriously!  I mean come on... everyone has at LEAST one person around them that has ears.  Why would you even bother trying out?  No one can be THAT deluded.

*sigh*

I do admit, its HYSTERICAL to watch though!

When they get down to the final 12 we are going to have a poll here and start debating each! Can't wait.

:: raises hand :: I was the one who auditioned for American Idol and realized just how hungry for ratings the show is. I don't care that they turned me away because I wasn't there for myself anyway. But when they told the girl who auditioned next to my friend and I that they didn't want her, I actually protested.

Those tone deaf people who get through to Simon, Paula, and Randy get a piece of paper during that initial audition that allows them to skip the second audition and go directly to Simon, Paula, and Randy. Those papers are called "Retard Cards." I saw SEVERAL of them given out during our audition. I'd rather be turned away than given a "Retard Card."

A girl I know made it through to the second audition. Before she was allowed to go through with the second audition she had to sign a contract. She and another gentleman who'd gotten through were telling my friends and me what was in the contract. It was crazy!

The gentleman made it through to Simon, Paula, and Randy but the girl didn't make the second audition. He wasn't featured on the show though.

I refused to watch it last season but Angel made me turn on the TV to see some of the people from this season and I was sucked back into watching. LOL

I've written enough. I'll be quiet now. ;)

lol - great story CxxREE. I know a few who have tried out for the show in North Carolina, since they have come through NC almost every year.
The one thing that you have to remember is that the show is all about TV Ratings and the bad people in the begining drive the ratings, just like the quality ones do once they are cut down to the last few.

Nuff said!

Oh yeah!  And she couldnt sing either!!!! The woman made me want to carve my brains out with a plastic spork!

(but I do think its funny that she is watching it again!)  :-t

See? You did make me watch. If you hadn't been so adamant in talking of that woman's hideous look and awful voice, I'd have never been compelled to flip on the TV!! You're to blame, you're to blame!

Ah - I just love to watch the people who go through with the "retard cards" if they didn't get to TV - I doubt I would have ever started watching!

I LOVE IT!!

Hopefully tonight's show will be better in New York.
The shows have really highlighted the "bad" out there. I know it is fun to watch these strange wacky people, but it is time to show a few more people who can actually sing.
Last night we saw a fantastic woman who is a background singer and has an incredible voice. If she can add a personality that is "star quality", then she has a real chance. The big blues singer guy was good, but ultimately I don't see him making it very many rounds.

Wed, Jan 24th show from NYC

At least there were a few that could sing.
The 2 pretty girls were pretty good and the guy from last year who forgot his lines in the group rounds was also very good again. The strange was....well strange, but what would you expect from New York.

I did like the last woman who auditioned who was the palm reader who was doing the crazy dancing on the street. When she had her hair covering her face she looked like Cousin It from the Munsters. then when she started dancing with her tambourine, it was absolutely horrible. I think she was having an orgasm, lol. And the cowboy hat was classic...classic bad. The judges faces said it all.

35 people made it to Hollywood from NY.

Alabama next week.

What about the gay guy who went off on Simon and said he was going to call National Geographic to let them know the Dodo Bird was not extinct.

I almost fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard!

I always watch this program, at least the auditions anyway. There have been some right odd bods particularly in the British version. Does that get shown in the US?
